In November 2020, the World Economic Forum released a new report, “Top 10 Emerging Technologies 2020”.
Spatial Computing has been selected as one of them.
The report, published annually, brings together global experts to provide business leaders and the public with an overview of new technologies that have the potential to transform industries and society.
The 10 technologies are following.

2 Sun-Powered Chemistry
3 Virtual Patients
4 Spatial Computing
5 Digital Medicine
6 Electric Aviation
7 Lower-Carbon Cement
8 Quantum Sensing
9 Green Hydrogen
10 Whole-Genome Synthesis
We can find Spatial Computing in No.4.
The concept of the “digital twin” is already commonplace in the PLM world, and VR and AR are actually starting to be used in this context. It can be said that spatial computing is an extension of this to all real-life spaces, and the possibilities are unlimited.
“Spatial computing will soon bring human-machine and machine-machine interactions to new levels of efficiency in many walks of life, among them industry, healthcare, transportation and the home. Major companies, including Microsoft and Amazon, are heavily invested in the technology.”
According to PwC’s research, the economic impact of VR/AR in the world is about $48B as of 2019, but it is expected to grow rapidly to about $1,600B by 2030, or about 33 times in the next decade. Spatial computing may develop into a larger market while encompassing all of these.
