Panasonic Launches “UBMC Service”, a Cloud-Based Battery Management Service

Utilizing Cloud, AI for Battery Management

Panasonic Corporation announced on November 25, 2020 that it has launched the UBMC (Universal Battery Management Cloud) service, a new cloud-based battery management service that utilizes proprietary AI technology that incorporates battery knowledge to provide real-time insight into the battery status of electric mobility vehicles.

In some electric mobility vehicles, the remaining battery level in the on-board batteries is not always accurate, which can lead to unexpected power shortages and the inability to monitor battery deterioration over time, which can lead to missed battery replacements.
For this reason, the company developed the UBMC Service, which uses AI and the cloud to monitor and visualize the battery’s operational status in real time and in a quantitative manner, using its own data and know-how.

This will contribute to the realization of a society where people can use electric mobility without anxiety, free from battery-related problems, according to the company.

Features include

  • Utilizing AI that incorporates proprietary experimental trials developed in their battery development, they can more accurately estimate the state of the battery
  • By managing batteries in the cloud and using the provided APIs, operators can optimize their business, such as replacing batteries at the right time and conducting efficient charging operations
  • New features updates are possible, such as route aware navigation to the best charging station in conjunction with map information
